CLINICAL SERVICES
Turning Point provides a clinician licensed at the independent level which may include a licensed psychologist, a licensed mental health professional, a licensed independent social worker, or a licensed marriage and family therapist.
The clinician will have weekly individual and group contact with each resident and provide consultation to staff, RI DCYF Caseworkers, and the resident's parent or guardian. Family therapy will also be provided where appropriate. The clinician will also provide consultation with other mental health professionals and school personnel, assist with crisis intervention, and make appropriate treatment referrals.
LIFE SKILLS TRAINING
Youth in the Supervised Apartment program are referred to the John H. Chafee Life Skills Center for Adolescents. This program is designed for youth 16 and older (living in out of home care) and enables young people to receive "hands on" training in a variety of living skills areas. Topics include banking and money management, job seeking and keeping skills, food management and cooking, interpersonal skills, healthcare, community resources, car buying, repairs and insurance, etc.
The program includes an individual life skills assessment, group and individual training, educational videos, guest speakers, and out-of-class experiences. Meals are prepared each class by participants. Those completing the program attend a class trip, participate in a graduation ceremony, and receive a certificate of completion, independent living care package, and a check for $200.
ENGAGING FAMILIES
Turning Point believes that keeping families involved
in their child's life is of primary importance. To this
end, the agency engages in the following practices:
1. Offering transportation for family visists and
therapy sessions.
2. Providing Parent Education Trainings.
3. Hosting Family Nights.
4. Assisting parents in accessing all available
community resources.
