Residential Programs Serving Male Adolescents
in Rhode Island
Turning Point was established by the Pawtucket Boys Club with the assistance of the Pawtucket Model Cities Administration to provide a community based resource that would furnish care for eight wayward and/or abused and neglected adolescent males who were residing in institutions or might otherwise be institutionalized.

After two years of research and planning the program secured the endorsement of the mayor and the City Council and opened its door on December 10, 1973.

Today, both sites remain located in the heart of Pawtucket, RI, affording easy access to schools, churches, and varied recreational activities. The locale enhances the opportunity to secure part-time/full-time employment for these youths who express a desire and manifest the requisite responsibility.

In July 2007 Turning Point co-founded the Blackstone Valley Youth and Family Collaborative. This network is comprised of Turning Point and two other agencies that serve adolescent males in a variety of congregate care settings. The Collaborative allows youth to move through a continuum of care from restrictive to least restrictive settings in a timely and cost-effective manner.

This website provides information on Turning Point's programs and services, lists upcoming events, and offers links within the child welfare field.

The mission of Turning Point is to help abused and neglected adolescent males, to build confidence, develop character and acquire the skills needed to become productive, civic-minded, responsible adults while providing a nurturing, caring environment. We believe that within a structured treatment oriented setting each child will be able to reach their optimal potential.
